MSC Specialty Films Inc. Sold to Belgium-Based Bekaert Corp.
Material Sciences Corp. (MSC) of Elk Grove Village, Ill., has announced that it has sold its MSC Specialty Films Inc. business, including its interest in Innovative Specialty Films LLC (ISF), to the Belgium-based Bekaert Corp. and its affiliates, for a purchase price of $122.1 million. The Bekaert Corp. already owned part of Innovative Specialty Films, but now will serve as its sole proprietor since the purchase.
MSC Specialty Films Inc.’s films will now be manufactured under Bekaert’s advanced materials business unit as Bekaert Specialty Films LLC.
The sale should have little to no effect on the company’s distributors and dealers, according to marketing director Mark F. Bollegar. “The only effect this will have on our dealer customer base will be the name change from MSC Specialty Films Inc. to Bekaert Specialty Films LLC,” Bollegar said. “Dealers will continue to buy their film, tools and marketing support from the same place. We will continue to manufacture the same high-quality films, provide our dealers with unparalleled technical and marketing support and employ the same group of people. And with such an innovative, technology-driven company that has an obvious path for growth backing us, we look forward to the new products and support ahead.”
According to MSC Specialty Films Inc., all warranty programs that have been in place at MSC Specialty Films Inc. will continue without change and all warranty obligations from the past will be honored under the new ownership of the Bekaert Corp.
“The acquisition of MSC/SFI by Bekaert is an excellent move forward for both our company and our dealers,” Bollegar added. “Bekaert has the technological resources, market research and financial backing to truly lead the industry.” (For a news analysis of this event and how it will affect the industry, see the September-October 2001 issue of USGlass’ sister publication, WINDOW FILM magazine, page 20.)
