Did You Want Fries With That?
“I put glass from my pocket in the Big Mac I made and then I took it to the window and gave it to a cop.”
Yes, really, those words were spoken by 18-year-old Albert Garcia Jr., a McDonald’s employee in the Bronx, N.Y., in a videotaped confession. But why he did it, no one seems to know.
According to an article in Newsday, Officer John Florio, a 17-year veteran of the New York Police Department, “bit into the burger and chewed until he realized that something was shredding his mouth and throat.”
Garcia is being charged with felony assault against a police officer, which carries a maximum sentence of 8 1/3 to 25 years in jail.
The Bull by the Horns …
The corporate identity of Merrill Lynch is getting a makeover. The company has launched new television commercials that show the famous Merrill Lynch advertising character, Dollar the bull, charging into a stock-market ticker tape made of glass.
According to an article in the New York Times, the shattered glass “is meant to signal that Merrill Lynch has broken through its traditional role of stock and bond buyer into becoming … a provider of broader financial services …”
The article also said that the idea for the glass ticker tape stems from a 1971 Merrill Lynch commercial that showed the bull walking through aisles of China and glassware without anything breaking. The commercial was intended to show the company’s “sensitivity” and “agility” in making decisions for clients, the article said.
