This auto glass safety standard is developed and maintained by the Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC). The current auto glass Standard is <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/webstore.ansi.org\/RecordDetail.aspx?sku=ANSI%2fAGSC%2fAGRSS+003-2015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANSI\/AGSC\/AGRSS 003-2015<\/a>. This auto glass safety standard called <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/rolags.com\/pdf\/ANSI+NWRA+ROLAGS+001-2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ANSI\/NWRA\/ROLAGS 001-2014<\/a>\u00a0is developed and maintained by the National Windshield Repair Association (NWRA) and can be viewed online.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6f78c7e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6f78c7e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2730 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/info.glass.com\/uploads\/2018\/05\/nhtsa-2-e1556128903498-300x84.png\" alt=\"nhtsa\" width=\"300\" height=\"84\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/nhtsa-2-e1556128903498-300x84.png 300w, https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/nhtsa-2-e1556128903498.png 563w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/h3><h3>Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS):<\/h3><p>There are a number of Federal car safety standards issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to implement laws from Congress that also come into play in the aftermarket repair and replacement of <a href=\"https:\/\/info.glass.com\/who-regulates-auto-glass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">auto glass<\/a>. Though these car safety standards were developed for new cars, they have implications in the <a href=\"https:\/\/info.glass.com\/rv-glass-repair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">repair and replacement of auto glass<\/a> as well. They are:<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1111&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 111<\/a> \u2014 Provides car safety standards for the devices and systems used to see out the rear of the car, including mirrors.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1205&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 205<\/a> \u2014 The motherlode auto glass standard for glass in vehicles, this Standard is simply called \u201cGlazing Materials\u201d and defines the specifications for use of glass and glazing in vehicles.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1208&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 208<\/a> \u2014 Is the car safety Standard for Occupant Crash Protection. Few people know this, but the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glass.com\/auto\/windshields\" title=\"windshield\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">windshield<\/a> is an integral part of the occupant protection system. In fact, a windshield that was installed improperly can keep the airbags from functioning properly.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1212&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 212<\/a> \u2013 Explains how the windshield should be mounted in the car. This Standard is for new cars but it does have implications for those who replace glass as well.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1214&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 214<\/a> \u2014 is a car safety standard designed to protect occupants in the case of side impact and reduce fatalities from the same. It specifies strength requirements for the side of the vehicle, including glass.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1216&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 216<\/a> \u2014 is a car safety standard designed to protect occupants from roof crush an. It specifies strength requirements for the roof and supports of the vehicle, including glass.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1219&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 219<\/a> \u2014 An important auto glass safety standard that specifies the amount the windshield is allowed to be displaced during a crash. The purpose of this standard is reduce crash injuries and fatalities that result from components displaced near or through the windshield.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecfr.gov\/cgi-bin\/text-idx?SID=d4f7934ae1a2a7a6b5db134cd041add8&amp;mc=true&amp;node=se49.6.571_1219&amp;rgn=div8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FMVSS 226<\/a> \u2014 An important auto glass safety standard that mitigates the changes of ejection through side windows during a crash.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-735a6c8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"735a6c8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2>Windshield Quality:<\/h2><ul><li><a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/standards.sae.org\/j673_201506\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SAE J673-201506<\/a>\u2014This recommended auto glass safety standard practice was developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) mainly for car body engineers and designers. It includes nominal specifications for curvature, flatness, size and fabrication. It is a successor to the Z26.1 Standard.
