Morningstar had previously worked with wood, which \u201c<em>gave me a bit of experience<\/em>,\u201d then working in a glass shop for five or six months introduced him to glass.<br \/>\n\u201c<em>I just thought a glass guitar was a kind of cool thing to build,<\/em>\u201d he says. He soon realized that if he wanted a glass guitar, maybe someone else would also. He began making glass guitars in 2020.<\/p>\n<h2>Glass Guitar Price<\/h2>\n<h3>How much does a glass guitar cost?<\/h3>\n<p>Every glass electric guitar is \u201cbuilt to order\u201d for each customer. Four models are available <strong>starting at $2,450<\/strong> and ranging up to $4,150. The cost reflects the cost of parts, as well as the labor that goes into spending <strong>80 to 100 hours<\/strong> to make the musical instrument. He created a guitar with a <strong>glass body and a wooden neck<\/strong> that he purchases from another company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>It\u2019s a little bit more familiar for some people,<\/em>\u201d Morningstar says of the guitar with the wooden neck.<\/p>\n<p>The body and the neck of the guitars Morningstar makes are made of glass, but the strings and other parts are not made of glass.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Image source: Morningstar Glass Guitars<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Glass Guitar Weight<\/h2>\n<h3>How much does a glass guitar weigh?<\/h3>\n<p>The inside of each guitar made of glass is hollow in order to keep the weight of the guitar as light as possible.<br \/>\nMorningstar says his guitars weigh <strong>from 12.9 pounds to as much as 15 pounds<\/strong>, depending on the size of the body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>I wanted to get it under 13 pounds, and I was happy<\/em>,\u201d Morningstar says of creating guitars that have a lightweight.<\/p>\n<p>His customers understand though that a glass body guitar will be heavier than a guitar made of wood.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-50645 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/info.glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"morningstar-glass-guitar-body\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.glass.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/morningstar-glass-guitar-body.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Glass Guitar Building<\/h2>\n<p>Morningstar coats his glass guitar bodies with a material to make them more resistant to scratches and says they do not shatter easily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>I guess the aesthetics were the hardest<\/em>,\u201d Morningstar says of the challenges he overcame when he began making glass guitars.<\/p>\n<p>Establishing a process was also a challenge, and he continues to learn what works and what does not work.<br \/>\nDetermining the radius of the <strong>fretboard<\/strong> was also difficult. They, basically, sound the same. [The glass guitar] is a luxury product<\/em>,\u201d Morningstar says. \u201c<em>But the sound of a glass guitar is \u201ca little bit different.<\/em>\u201d<br \/>\n\u201c<em>It\u2019s more sustained than a wooden guitar,<\/em>\u201d Morningstar, who has played guitar for more than 15 years, says. He says they are available on his website. \u00a0Every guitar, electric or brass, has a stainless steel plate on the headstock with his name and logo. He obtained another position in early 2020, but COVID soon followed resulting in another lay-off.<br \/>\nThat\u2019s when he got the job working at a glass shop.
